322: The Biggest T20 Total in Our Data Was Not Scored by a Test Nation
Austria made 322 for 7 against Hungary in June, with 164 off 57 balls at the top and 93 off 26 in the middle of it. It sits above every IPL, Big Bash and World Cup innings we hold, and the story of how our list looks is a small lesson in what a database does and does not know.
Every list of records is really a list of what somebody happened to be measuring. Ours is no exception, and the top of it is a good illustration.
The biggest innings we hold: Austria, 322 for 7
On 28 June 2026, Austria made 322 for 7 in twenty overs against Hungary, and won by 157 runs.
Our ball-by-ball record of that innings has Karanbir Singh making 164 from 57 balls, with 18 fours and 12 sixes, and Abidullah Kotwal 93 not out from 26 balls, with 12 sixes of his own.
Ninety three off twenty six. Two batters in one innings hit twelve sixes each.
The rest of the list
- Germany, 308, against Austria on 1 May 2026, won by 162 runs.
- England, 304, against South Africa on 12 September 2025. The highest by a full member nation in our data.
- India, 297, against Bangladesh on 12 October 2024.
- Sunrisers Hyderabad, 287, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 15 April 2024. The highest in our IPL records, and they won by 25 runs, meaning the reply was 262.
- Sunrisers Hyderabad, 286, against Rajasthan Royals on 23 March 2025.
- India, 283, against South Africa on 15 November 2024.
- Czech Republic, 278, against Turkey on 30 August 2019.
The most lopsided match in our entire database
That last one deserves its own paragraph. The Czech Republic made 278 for 4. Turkey were bowled out for 21 in 8.3 overs.
A margin of 257 runs. Nothing else in our 4,102 T20 matches comes close.
What this list actually tells you
Two useful things, and one caution.
First, the associate game produces extremes. Four of our top eight came in matches between smaller nations, where the gap in quality between two teams can be enormous. Elite cricket is a narrow band; developing cricket is a wide one, and wide bands produce records.
Second, the ceiling in top level T20 is lower than people think. The best full member innings we hold is England's 304, and the best in a full domestic league is 287. Even in an era where par has climbed, 300 in elite T20 remains close to unheard of.
Now the caution, which matters more than the list. These are the highest totals in our data, not in cricket. Our T20 coverage is international cricket plus the major leagues. The actual T20 international record is higher than anything here, set in a match we do not hold.
We could have quietly written "the highest T20 total ever" and most readers would never have checked. It would also have been false, and the whole value of a database is that its owner tells you where it stops.
Coverage
Our T20 database holds 4,102 matches ball by ball, covering men's and women's T20 internationals, the IPL, the Big Bash, the PSL, the CSA T20 Challenge and the men's and women's T20 World Cups, and it grows with every match we cover. IPL ball-by-ball records begin in 2013, T20 international scorecards in 2017.
All figures computed by CricNerd from our own ball-by-ball T20 database. The Austria innings detail is from our own record of the match.
