The Hundred 2026: Two First-Time Champions, and a Bowler Who Kept Going
Manchester Super Giants and Trent Rockets both won a maiden title at Lord's. One of the tournament's leading wicket-takers then took eight in a Test the following week.
The 2026 edition of the Hundred finished at Lord's on 16 August with two maiden champions, which for a competition in its sixth year is a healthier outcome than it might sound.
The men's final
Manchester Super Giants 162 for 5 beat Trent Rockets 158 for 8 by five wickets, with two balls to spare.
Tim Seifert made 72 from 38 balls with seven sixes and was named player of the series. Trent Rockets had spread their runs rather than built an innings around anyone: Donald 38, Gregory 32, Duckett 31, Allen 15. Mohammad Amir took three for 29.
Manchester had lost two previous finals before this one. They reached this one by beating Sunrisers Leeds by 20 runs in the eliminator at the Oval two days earlier.
A chase of 159 completed with two balls left is the version of a final everybody wants and almost nobody schedules.
The women's final
Trent Rockets beat Sunrisers Leeds by eight wickets with 46 balls remaining, taking their first title. They had topped the group with seven wins from eight, so the final was the least surprising part of their tournament.
Annabel Sutherland of Sunrisers Leeds was player of the series and the leading run-scorer with 315, which is the sort of individual tournament that usually ends with a medal. It did not.
The women's wicket-taking list finished with three players tied on 13: Samantha Bates, Deepti Sharma and Tilly Corteen-Coleman.
The thread worth following
Mitch Marsh of Sunrisers Leeds led the men's run-scoring with 416. The leading wicket-taker was Josh Tongue of Manchester Super Giants with 14.
Tongue is the name to follow out of this tournament. Five days after the final he was at Headingley taking eight wickets in a Test against Pakistan, and he now sits second in the current World Test Championship cycle on 53 wickets, behind only Mitchell Starc.
England have spent several years trying to work out whether short-format volume helps or harms a fast bowler's red-ball season. One player is not evidence. But a bowler going from the top of a hundred-ball wicket list to an eight-for in a Test inside a week is at least an argument against the assumption that the two formats pull in opposite directions.

The Hundred is played over 100 balls an innings rather than 120, so it is not Twenty20 and we do not fold it into our T20 records. Anything we publish about this tournament is reported from the competition rather than computed from our own archive, and we would rather say that than let a figure imply otherwise.
